And when that happens, the incumbent government’s situation will be like that of ‘Hirak Raja’, the BNP chairperson said.

She drew a parallel between the ruling regime in Bangladesh and oppressive fictional monarch in Satyajit Ray’s satirical film 'Hirak Rajar Deshe' who ran his kingdom by the dictates of his whims.

“This Ramadan, we’ll pray to save the country from the grasp of this unjust and oppressive government,” Khaleda said on Wednesday.

She was speaking at an Iftar hosted by the Liberal Democratic Party, a member of the BNP-led 20-Party alliance, at Bashundhara International Convention City in Dhaka.

“Allah is testing these oppressors – how much corrupt they can become, how worse they can be and how much lie they can tell,” the BNP chief said.
“When people will pull the rope and cut it, they (government) will break into pieces like Hirak Raja – give the rope a mighty tug and the king will be reduced to pieces,” she said.
‘Hirak Rajar Deshe’ is a famous film directed by the Oscar-winning Satyajit Ray, where a depraved king brain washes his citizens and suppresses dissent through whichever means possible.

Khaleda slammed the government for releasing former minister Abdul Latif Siddique on bail.

“A leader, who was released on bail, is in hiding, fearing people’s wrath.

“You still have time. Book a place. You’ll not get time to hide or escape,” she added.

The former prime minister alleged that the government imported rotten wheat from Brazil.

“It is in the air that flour will be made from the wheat and distributed among people through programmes like Food for Work and Test Relief. People will die a slow death,” she said.

She also alleged people of the Awami League were involved in grabbing properties and extortion, but the government was filing cases against the leaders and activists of the BNP-led coalition.

“They are not given bail. If they get bail, they are arrested at the jail gates,” she said.

She warned police that they would face ‘problems’ in the future for their ‘partisan role’.
