BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi gets bail in four cases of violence 

The High Court has granted interim bail to BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in four cases of violence.

High Court Justices Md Rezaul Haque and Md Khasruzzaman gave the order after hearing Rizvi’s plea on Wednesday. 

But the BNP leader cannot be released as he stands stands accused in eight other cases, said his lawyer Sagir Hossain Leon.

“He had already secured bail in five of the 17 cases filed against him this year,” he told bdnews24.com. “Today he was granted bail in four more cases.”    

Three of these cases were filed at Mirpur Police Station and the other at Pallabi Police Station, under the Special Powers and Explosives Act.  

Rizvi, joint secretary general of the BNP, has already been charge sheeted in the case at Pallabi Police Station. He moved the High Court after he was refused bail in the lower court.

Jainul Abedin pleaded for the Rizvi’s bail while Deputy Attorney General Fazlur Rahman argued against it.

Police arrested Rizvi on Jan 31 amid BNP’s violent and indefinite countrywide transport blockade. He had been making statements supporting strikes and the blockade from his hideout.
