The incident took place at Government Tolram College around 11:30am Wednesday, Fotulla Model Police Station SI Md Mustafa told bdnews24.com.

Police were present during the attack but did nothing to stop it, said District Chhatra Union President Maitri Ghosh.

He said they were going to hand over a memorandum to the college’s principal with several demands, mainly to protest the ‘admission trade’ allegedly carried out by the Awami League’s student wing.

“Chhatra League’s activists including ‘Tofa’ and ‘Alif’ attacked us led by their college president Habibur Rahman Riyadh. Police stood watching.”

The activists began beating the leftist students to break up the procession as it entered the campus’s main entrance, witnesses told bdnews24.com.

At least 20 were injured as Chhatra League activists locked the main gate after taking position on both sides.

SI Mostafa, however, denied that the assault took place in their presence.
