Statement attributed to BNP calls 48-hour shutdown

A statement purportedly issued by the BNP has called a 48-hour shutdown across the country.

The shutdown will start from Monday 6am and end on Wednesday 6am, according to the statement signed by BNP Joint Secretary General Barkat Ullah Bulu that was circulated on Sunday.

The cities of Dhaka and Chittagong have been kept out of the shutdown’s purview due to the upcoming City Corporation elections.

According to the statement, the shutdown is to press for the release of jailed leaders of BNP and its allies and for an interim national elections under a non-party government.
