The ruling party’s Publicity Secretary Hasan Mahmud launched the attack on the BNP chief at a programme in Dhaka’s Shilpakala Academy on Friday.

Mahmud said, “There is no bar to her leaving her office. Even though she failed in Bangla in her matriculation exam, she passed in Urdu.

“She wanted to introduce writing Bangla in Urdu alphabets like Nurul Amin. She will not go to Shaheed Minar because of her love for Urdu.”

BNP chairperson’s press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan had confirmed bdnews24.com that Khaleda will not be making her customary visit to the Central Shaheed Minar on the first hour.

But party leaders and workers would pay their respects at daybreak on Saturday.

Although, Maruf Kamal did not give any reasons for her decision, senior party leaders said Khaleda will not be paying respects on the International Mother Language Day since she called the blockade herself.
