Tk 10bn libel against Tarique over Razakar comment
A libel suit has been filed against BNP’s Tarique Rahman in Munshiganj for calling Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman a ‘Razakar’.

The case filed by Munshiganj Bangladesh Chhatra League president Md Nasibun Islam on Sunday sought Tk 10 billion as compensation.
It follows several other libel and sedition cases filed in Sylhet and Bogra over the remarks.
BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman, eldest son of party chief Khaleda Zia, had claimed the father of the nation was a collaborator of the invading Pakistan Army in 1971.
Tarique, living in the UK since 2008, has sparked controversy by making highly critical remarks against Bangabandhu.
Speaking at a ceremony for Bangladesh’s Victory Day, he said Sheikh Mujibur Rahman could have saved numerous lives if he had decided to start the war on Mar 7 with Bengali army officers on his side.
The few Pakistani soldiers stationed in then East Pakistan could have been easily defeated, he claimed.
Bangabandhu, he said, was a friend of the Pakistanis for which he should be called a Razakar.
Munshiganj Senior Judicial Magistrate has summoned Tarique Rahman after hearing the case for more than half hour on Sunday, said additional public prosecutor Ajay Chakraborty.
