4 Jamaat, BNP members arrested

Four leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and BNP have been arrested from Sirajganj Sadar and Ullapara.

Security has been beefed up on Wednesday in view of the pronouncement of verdict in war crimes case against Jamaat chief Motiur Rahman Nizami.
RAB, Police and BGB were patrolling the area.
All of the arrestees were accused in cases pertaining to violence, police said.
District Police Superintendent S M Emran Hussain, Sirajganj Sadar Police OC Habibur Rahman, and Ullapara Police OC Tajul Huda told bdnews24.com about the arrests.
Ataur Rahman '55', the Secretary of Jamaat’s Sirajganj Sadar unit, was arrested from Alia Madrasa area of the city around 11am on Wednesday.
Seven to eight cases of violence have been filed against him.
The OC of Ullapara also said three leaders of BNP and Jamaat were arrested from their homes on Wednesday morning.
They are, former chief of Jamaat’s unit in Ullapara Nazrul Islam, '50', arrested from Jhikira, Saiful Islam '45' of Koira, and Azizul Haque, '32'.
They were accused in the cases filed over explosions and obstructing police from carrying out duties, said OC Habibur.
SP S M Emran Hussain, said that, vigilance in the area had been beefed. In addition to Police, two platoons of BGB were deployed to control the situation following Nizami’s verdict.
He said 'law enforcing personnel are patrolling vital areas to deal with reports of any untoward incidents.'
