It blamed the Awami League for the protests against the decision to take controversial TV commentator Piash Karim's body there.

Speaking at a discussion on Saturday, senior party leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Saturday:"How unfortunate we are! A quarter, which is claiming themselves as children of freedom fighters, does not know the true history of the Liberation War.

"We know that the Awami league has introduced the politics of division in this country."

BRAC University teacher Piash Karim, better known for his controversial remarks on TV talk shows, died on Monday of a cardiac arrest.

Hailing from Comilla, Karim shot into limelight for his performance on television panel discussions.

His comments on the Ganajagaran Mancha, which demanded maximum penalty for war criminals, and trial process of suspected war criminals invited bitter criticism from various quarters.

Several organisations vehemently protested against his family's announcement to take his body to the Central Shaheed Minar for people to pay their respects.
