7 shot in BCL factional clash at Kishoreganj

At least 15 were injured, seven of them hit by bullets - in clashes over formation of Bangladesh Chhatra League’s district committee at Kishoreganj.

The mayhem erupted in front of the Awami League office located at Station Road around 9pm, and continued for more than two hours late on Wednesday.

A diagnostic centre was vandalised during the clash at Bottola area.

The entire area was closed to traffic until police and RAB intervened, Kishoreganj Model Police Station OC Musharraf Hossain told bdnews24.com.

There has been marked unrest among members dropped from the new committee, fomed on Sept 4, with Shafikul Dhali as president and Ashraful Islam as General Secretary.

Heated arguments between factional rivals erupted in clashes in which both sharp weapons and firearms were freely used.

Kishoreganj District Hospital doctor Amit Kumar Rajib said seven men were hit by bullets..

They were ‘Tushar’, 25, ‘Ripon’, 25, ‘Ronnie’ ,24, ‘Noman’, 20, ‘Mukul’, 20, Raj ,18 and ‘Tareq’, 27. All of them were Chhatra League activists.
