A regular flight of the Singapore Airlines carrying the Leader of the Opposition landed at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 10:40pm on Monday.

The former Prime Minister left Dhaka for Singapore on June 16 for medical checkups. She was admitted to the Mount Elizabeth Hospital there.

BNP lawmakers and leaders of the BNP and its associate organisations received her outside the airport.

BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the party's Standing Committee Members Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar, Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan, BNP Chairperson's Advisors Shahjahan Omar, Osman Faruk, Abdul Mannan, AZM Zahid Hossain, Fazlur Rahman Patal, Joint Secretaries General Aman Ullah Aman, Barkatullah Bulu, Mahbub Uddin Khokan, Salahuddin Ahmed, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the party's Dhaka metropolitan unit Member Secretary Abdus Salam and Opposition Acting Chief Whip M Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee greeted the Chairperson outside the airport’s VIP lounge.

Khaleda and Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad went to Singapore for checkups at the same time. Ershad returned to the country on Tuesday.

Their presence in Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital at the same time triggered speculation about the two leaders discussing election issues there.

However, insiders of both parties dismissed the rumors, saying both the party chiefs were there strictly for medical reasons.

The Jatiya Party is part of the government but not of the ruling Awami League-led 14-party alliance.

But Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recently expressed concern that there might have been a 'conspiracy' behind her rival Khaleda Zia's tour to Singapore.
