The clash erupted around 11am near the city’s Rani Bazar area after the Islamist activists brought out a sudden procession from Bata intersection area.

Witnesses said police lobbed teargas shells and fired rubber bullets in retaliation.

The injured private TV channel Bangla Vision cameraman Abu Sayed has been taken to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Officials say this attack is part of the nationwide violence unleashed by the Jamaat-Shibir combine after the death penalty of their leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee, in which police has been systematically targetted.

Boalia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ziaul Haq Zia said apart from Sayed, the clash left two police men injured two.

“We have arrested seven from the spot,” he added.

Earlier, police arrested 23 activists of Jamaat and Shibir from the Rail Station area.
