The Kathmandu Post reported that the plane, operated by Tara Air, lost contact with air traffic control 10 minutes after it took off from Pokhara, 125 km west of capital Kathmandu.
The Twin Otter aircraft was carrying 20 passengers and three crew members. It was heading to Jomson, a popular trekking destination in about 20 minutes' flight from Pokhara.
Reuters reported that a search mission was underway.
"Two helicopters are on a search-and-rescue mission," Pokhara airport official Yogendra Kunwar was quoted by the news agency as saying. "There is no trace of the aircraft so far."
