RMC upgraded to medical university

Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) has been upgraded to a medical university.

This was announced by Health Minister Mohammed Nasim at a view exchange meeting with the physicians, officials, employees of the RMCH and local politicians at the RMCH auditorium on Saturday noon.

Nasim said, “The institution will be renamed Shaheed AHM Quamruzzaman Medical University.”

He said that the government would not tolerate if the physicians indulge in politics over healthcare service.
“You should be dedicated to your service to the people. The government will provide you all sorts of possible facilities.”
At present there is only one medical university – Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University – in Bangladesh. It was upgraded in 1998.
Former Rajshahi mayor Khairuzzaman Liton, Workers Party central politburo member Fazle Hossain Badshah MP, Akthar Jahan MP, RMCH Director Brig Gen AKM Nasir Uddin and RMC Principal Mir Abu Raihan were present at the function, among others.
