The minister was interacting with a delegation of the Foreign Chamber of Commerce and Industries at the secretariat on Thursday.

He said a shortage of gas in Bangladesh had forced the shipping of the fuel from other countries as Liquefied Natural Gas or LNG.

An LNG terminal, the first of its kind in Bangladesh, is coming up at Moheshkhali.

It would be another two years before the terminal became operational, the minister said, urging industries to wait till then.

The LNG terminal is scheduled to be completed by 2018.

Once operational, it would hold a little over 0.1 million cubic metre of LNG and would be able to offer a daily supply of 500 million cubic feet.
