Bangladesh Bank sends notices to six bank directors to relinquish posts

Bangladesh Bank has asked six directors of private banks to explain why they are simultaneously holding the posts of directors in other financial institutions in breach of rules.

AFM Asaduzzaman, General Manager of the Governor's Secretariat, said the show-cause notices were sent by post on Monday.

“They have been given 15 days to relinquish any of the posts,” he said.

Rubel Aziz, Meherun Haque, Hossain Mehmood and Aziz Al Kaiser were served notices for holding dual posts of directors of City Bank and IDLC Finance Limited.

The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Hossain Khaled and Shahidul Ahsan have also been show-caused.

Khaled is directors of both City Bank and GFC Finance Limited.

Ahsan, a director of Mercantaile Bank, also holds the post of a director at IDLC Finance.

As per the law, a director of a bank cannot hold the same post in another financial institution.
