On a point-to-point basis, July’s inflation hit 6.36 points, a 0.11 percentage point rise from June, according to the latest report of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics.

“Non-food inflation has increased due to the large sale of clothing and cosmetics ahead of Eid,” Kamal said on Tuesday after an ECNEC meeting.

“The rise in inflation is mainly caused by that.”

Non-food inflation hit 6.8 percent in July, which saw Eid celebrated on the 18th.  It was 6.15 percent in June.

Food inflation in the same period has fallen to 6.07 percent from 6.32.

Rural inflation was 5.88 percent in July, 0.02 percent less than that in June, while urban inflation was 7.28 percent, 0.37 percent more than that in the previous month.
