Spain's Isolux Ingenieria, S.A., and Korea's Samsung C&T Corporation will build the gas-fired plant in 30 months.

The project is estimated to cost Tk 25.08 billion while the cost of each unit produced will be Tk 1.13.

The agreement was signed in Dhaka on Monday.

As per the deal, the contractors will jointly plan the engineering aspects, purchase materials, and construct the plant.

Soil test and topographic survey of a 14.54-km project area have already been done.

Bangladesh plans to increase its power output in order to meet increasing demand. It has already planned a nuclear power plant in Pabna and a thermal power plant near the Sundarbans.

The government is considering tapping wind energy as well.

State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid advised the power division to give all help to the contractors.

Power Secretary Monowar Islam said the Bibiana plant would be "an efficient and modern" one.
