Bangladesh Bank's Banking Regulation and Policy Department gave this directive in a circular on Monday.

The central bank has told all scheduled banks to install video recorders, and CCTV, IP and spy cameras inside and outside their branches to bolster security.

Before the circular came, bdnews24.com had carried a report on the disappearance of several hundred client-related documents from 14 banks.

But Banking Regulation and Policy Department Deputy General Manager Roop Ratan Pine denied the circular was in any way linked with the report.

He told bdnews24.com security was being upgraded at the commercial banks and several circulars had been sent in that connection.

“Monday’s note was one such directive. We are still exploring ways to increase bank security,” he said.

The central bank had given a slew of suggestions in January after a daring heist at the Sonali bank’s Kishoreganj branch, where robbers had decamped with Tk 160 million by digging a tunnel to the vault.

The central bank had advised structural and technical measured to tighten security.
