Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Undertakings Shawkat Ali told bdnews24.com that the panel gave the instruction at its meeting on Thursday.
The documents of the meeting show BSCIC has developed 74 industrial estates, having 10,338 plots since its inception till June this year.
Of the plots, 9,779 were allotted to businessmen, but industrial units have been established only on 5,678 plots and 4,104 units are currently in operation.
Asked about the reasons for the delay in setting up industries on the BSCIC plots, Ali said that ‘takes time’.
A Parliament Secretariat press release said the standing committee recommended giving preference to women entrepreneurs in the allotment of new plots.
It also advocated the shifting of tanneries from Hazaribagh, in Dhaka city, to Savar within a specified time.
