Station manager Abul Kalam Azad said the train failed to stop at the designated place to pick passengers and the engine with two coaches spilled over to the platform at 5 am.
The train hit the passenger entrance at the platform, badly damaging it.
No one was injured as both the train and the platform were empty at that hour, said Azad.
The accident caused a 30-minutes delay in the train's departure. It started for Dhaka at 7.30 am after the engine and derailed coaches were removed and replaced.
The station manager says they suspect that the train was moving at more than its usual speed while entering the platform area and the driver failed to stop it on time.
A probe will be started soon, he said.
