Rahman and Stepney Green ward councillor Alibor Choudhury were found guilty of corruption and illegal practices during election.
Councillor Oliur Rahman, deputy mayor and cabinet member for Economic Development (Jobs, Skills and Enterprise), was now acting as executive mayor, a statement of the Council said.
The post of Stepney Green ward councillor would remain vacant until the election, according to the statement.
In the statement on the election judgment on Apr 23, the Council said the decisions made by Rahman would stand.
