Detective police spokesman Monirul Islam told a press conference on Friday that ballistic tests by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) confirmed that the calibres of the bullets found in the bodies and Rony’s gun were same.
He said the report of the tests was submitted by the CID on Thursday.
“We are certain that the two were killed by bullets fired from Rony’s pistol,” he added.
Stray bullets fired at New Eskaton in the wee hours on Apr 14 killed an auto-rickshaw driver and a rickshaw-puller.
Rony, son of the ruling party MP from a seat reserved for women, was arrested in connection with the killings.
Media reports say he opened fire with his licensed gun after he felt irritated at being caught in a traffic jam.
It is also said that he was drunk at the time of the incident.
Police had seized Pinu Khan’s car from which the shots were allegedly fired.
Rony’s friend Kamal Mahmud has confessed in a court that the MP’s son had fired the shots.
