Faridpur, Nov 3 (bdnews24.com) – Industries minister Dilip Barua has handed over a cheque of Tk 100,000 to the family of Chapa Rani Bhoumik, who was killed by a stalker last week.
Roni Saha, the stalker, ran his motorcycle over Chapa Rani, 45, an employee of Faridpur Sugar Mill and wife of Swapan Biswas, when she protested Roni's harassment of her daughter.
Arun Kumar Bhowmik, brother of the deceased, filed a murder case on Wednesday morning with Madhukhali Police Station.
On Oct 30, a special team, comprising Faridpur additional superintendent of police arrested Roni from a motor garage in Aragpur area of Jhenaidah.
On Wednesday, Barua visited her house at Garakhola village of Madhukhali Upazila in Faridpur around 12 pm and handed over the cheque to her family.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina has already provided Tk 400,000 to Chanpa Rani's daughters so they can continue their studies.
Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) chairman Ranjit Biswas, Faridpur Sugar Mill managing director Kamal Kanti Sarker, Bangladesh Homeopathy Board chairman Dr Dilip Roy, Faridpur deputy commissioner Helaluddin Ahmed, Faridpur superintendent of police Mohammad Awlad Ali Fakir and other high officials accompanied the minister during the visit.
Barua, along with others, observed one minute silence for her departed soul.
The minister said the women and children affairs ministry is formulating an Eve Teasing Prevention Act following the increased incidences of sexual harassment and stalking, which have led to suicides and murders.
Barua also assured the family members that Champa Rani's elder daughter Shampa will be provided with a job at Faridpur Sugar Mill.
