Being the Speaker of the House, Chaudhury administered the oath by herself on Wednesday in Parliament and signed on the document.
After the oath, she embraced Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who was present during the ceremony.
Chaudhury, elected MP without a contest in the by-polls, has been nominated for her second term as Speaker in the 10th Parliament by the ruling party.
Awami League has majority in Parliament and there is little chance of a member voting against the party’s decision.
According to the rules of business, the first session of new Parliament will elect the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker.
Chaudhury might be sworn in as Speaker on Wednesday, if all is on schedule.
Shirin Sharmin became Bangladesh’s first female Speaker after her predecessor Abdul Hamid was elected President.
“I have been elected through the by-polls at Pirganj,” she told reporters after taking oath. “As their representative, I will work to solve the issues they face.”
Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury was denied Awami League’s nomination for the 10th national election. She received party’s nomination after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina vacated the Rangpur-6 (Pirganj).
