Processes are on to provide provisional national identification cards (NIDs) to almost 5 million citizens who do not have it despite their names being enrolled in the voter list.

Taking of opinions and a decision on the issue are included in the agenda of Election Commission’s meeting on Tuesday.
The National Identity Registration Wing (NIDW) will implement the decision once it is approved.
Around 4.7 million citizens among Bangladesh’s above 96 million voters do not have NIDs. These 4.7 million persons were included in the previous voter roll update.
So what is a temporary NID?
“Around 4.7 million doesn’t have NIDs. We are planning to provide them with provisional NIDs so they can carry out important tasks,” NIDW Director General Brig (Gen) Sultanuzzaman Md Saleh Uddin explained to bdnews24.com.
