The late man’s wife, actress Sumaiya Kaniz Sagarika, is one of the convicts.
The four others are ‘Ibrahim’ alias ‘Yasin’, Hijra Khalil, Al Amin and Khalil Sheikh.
The court on Monday acquitted one of the death-row convicts, Ali Ashraf Liton, as the charges against him could not be ‘proved beyond doubt’.
Dhaka’s Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 on Jun 21, 2010, had sentenced the six to death in the case, and acquitted another accused named Ismail Hossain, who was on the run.
The convicts then moved the High Court challenging the verdict.
Metal trader Jahangir Alam lived with his wife Sagarika, daughters ‘Anamika’, Asha and Apurba at a house in the capital’s Postogola area. He was murdered on Nov 8 in 2008.
Alam’s father Firoz Alam had filed the murder case with Shyampur police, accusing seven people including Sagarika.
According to the case details, Sagarika was involved in an extramarital relationship and she had the others -- convicted in the case -- murder her husband.
Shyampur Police Station’s Sub-Inspector Md Shahjalal Alam submitted the chargesheet on Dec 31 that year.
Thirty-seven witnesses had testified at court.
State counsel Deputy Attorney General MA Mannan Mohan told bdnews24.com that Sagarika, Khalil, Ibrahim and Al Amin had confessed at court to their involvement in the murder.
He added that they will appeal against the acquittal of Liton.
Sagarika’s lawyer Munsurul Haque Chowdhury said they will appeal against the High Court’s judgment.
