"The government is trying to save Jamaat. The government has not condemned the killing. Jamaat has launched a vitriolic propaganda against Mawlana Farooqi, so it seems they orchestrated the murder," the party's organising secretary Mohammad Masoud Hossain al-Qadri told a rally at Dhaka's Paltan area on Sunday.
IF's presidium member, Nurul Islam Farooqi was murdered at his Dhaka home on Aug 27. Police have already arrested three in connection with the killing.
The party's student affiliate, Islami Chhatra Sena (ICS) has called a half-day countrywide strike on Sunday demanding punishment of the killers.
ICS activists took out processions at the capital's Gendariya, Kalyanpur, Bijoynagar, Mirpur and Motijheel areas of Dhaka.
Around 100 IF and ICS activists gathered at the city's Palatn area and held a rally around 9.30 am.
Demanding arrest of the 'actual killers', ICS President Nurul Haque Chishti told the rally that it will hold a press conference on Monday over what it will do next.
They will also hold a protest rally on Sept 2 at the Laldighi grounds in Chittagong, said the ICS leader.
