Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Abdul Jalil Mandal ordered to hand over the cases to DB after a meeting with top CMP officials on Saturday.
DB Additional Deputy Commissioner Tanvir Arafat told bdnews24.com about the transfer of the cases.
On last Thursday, Al-Arafah Bank’s guard Mohammad Ibrahim was slaughtered at its Muradpur branch in the port city.
Nasima Begum, 28, and her 10-year-old daughter Ria Akter Falguni were found murdered at their home in South Nalapara area on the same day.
Senior official of the bank Ali Newaz and Nasima’s husband Shah Alam filed separate cases with Panchlaish Police Station and Sadarghat Police Station, respectively.
DB official Arafat said two teams were formed to investigate the murders.
DB Inspector Jahed Hossain is the head of the team that will investigate the bank guard’s murder while Inspector Abdur Rauf will lead the other team, he said.
He said preliminary investigation revealed that the bank guard’s murder was not an incident of robbery.
Police suspect the assailants might have had personal animosity with the guard or an intention of theft.
According to the footage of the bank’s Close Circuit Television Camera, the murderers were masked and they were three in number, Arafat said.
“They were only carrying sharp weapons and rods. They killed the guard first and then tried to open the vault with the key they found on the guard,” he said.
“If they were professionals, they would have carried more instruments like gas cutters. The chopper was collected from the bank’s kitchen,” he added.
Police could not find any motive for the murder of Nasima and her daughter until Saturday, CMP Assistan Commissioner Shah Mohammad Abdur Rauf said.
