BCL activists shouted slogans after breaking the lock in presence of police on Tuesday noon.

The agitating teachers were demonstrating in front of the adjoining VC office at that time.

A group of pro-Awami League teachers locked the exam controller’s office around 7:30am.

They then took position in front of the VC office, which was also locked the previous day, holding a banner.

‘Mohan Muktijuddher Chetanay Udbuddha Shikshak Parishad’ Convener Professor Syed Samsul Alam announced to continue their movement until VC Aminul Haque Bhuiyan resigned.

He said the classes and examinations would remain uninterrupted.

Police took up position near the offices of the VC and exam controller after the teachers besieged them.

BCL’s SUST unit General Secretary Imran Khan said, “General students have broken the lock. We are in favour of justice.”

He said, “We will extend full cooperation to ensure that educational activities are not hampered due to a section of self-seeking teachers.”

Earlier, the section of the pro-Al teachers’ panel had demanded the VC resignation, making accusations of ‘misconduct’ and ‘ineptitude’ in running the university administration and ‘irregularities’ in staff appointments.

As part of the movement, on Apr 20, thirty-five teachers had given up their administrative posts.

However, on Apr 23, Bhuiyan called an emergency syndicate meeting and announced that he was going off on a two-month leave.

This brought the 35 teachers back to their posts, where they continued to work under the Acting VC Ilias Uddin Biswas.

But around 8am on Monday, the VC arrived on the campus and approved a new proctorial body.

In protest, the agitating teachers confined the VC to his office from 8:30am to 4pm.

Aminul Haque Bhuiyan did not come to his office on Tuesday.
