Prison authorities said the pilot mistakenly flew his helicopter into the prison premises but it was supposed to land in Konabari, about 3km away.
"They had secured permission from the Konabari police, but the pilot landed here, disembarked the family and left immediately," Jailor Anwar Hossain told bdnews24.com. “It was a mistake.”
Billal Hossain, who has born in Comilla and now a Malaysian citizen, hired the helicopter to attend the wedding of his friend's daughter. He was travelling with his Malaysian wife and three children.
"He had hired the helicopter from Meghna Company to attend the wedding of his friend Rouf Mia's daughter," Hossain said.
But the prison authorities, however, could not say how a helicopter was able to land in a secured area and leave.
"Helicopters are permitted operate on a specific area. A police permission is needed if they want to fly beyond it. And they do so, if their clients want it," said CAAB Director Kazi Iqbal Karim.
Police Inspector Mobarak Hossain said the helicopter had permission to land in Konabari and that their men were on the spot, but the pilot landed on the prison grounds.
