Exotic vegetable cultivation near Dhaka
Several villages in Dhaka’s Savar and Manikganj’s Singair Upazila cultivate a number of high-value vegetables that are unusual to Bangladesh. Local farmers have raked in substantial profits by cultivating lettuce, broccoli, squash, capsicum, beetroot, red cabbage, French beans, etc. Only a few years ago, these vegetables had to be imported from abroad. Now, enough of them is produced that some of them can even be exported after meeting local demand.
