Shab-e-Barat streets flooded with patterned breads
On the eve of Shab-e-Barat, Old Dhaka’s streets come alive with a riot of shapes and flavours as patterned breads, popularly known as barati ruti, are sold at bustling roadside stalls. From fish-shaped loaves to intricately decorated small breads, prices range from Tk 200–700 per kg. Crowds rush into Chawkbazar and surrounding streets, snapping up bread to share with family and friends, while halwa, or pudding, and other festive sweets add to the sensory frenzy.
