Iftar is organised daily during the month of Ramadan at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, where hundreds of worshippers break fasting. The mosque committee, Islamic Foundation, and Tablighi Jamaat jointly organise the event.
During Ramadan, a wide variety of Iftar items are available in Dhaka’s Bailey Road. Local residents say nearly all the traditional Iftar delicacies of Old Dhaka can be found there. Crowds begin gathering at the stalls from the afternoon, ahead of Iftar.
The hustle and bustle of Old Dhaka’s Iftar market has begun on the road outside the Shahi Mosque in Chawkbazar. Shoppers from all over Dhaka flock to buy a variety of Iftar items on the first day of Ramadan.
