Leeds United's acquisition of Swiss striker Noah Okafor from AC Milan for £18 million has propelled English Premier League clubs' summer transfer spending to a record £2.37 billion, surpassing the previous highest from 2023.
The 25-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the newly promoted side, BBC Sport reports.
This marks Leeds' ninth signing since clinching the Championship title to return to the top flight.
The deal eclipses the £2.36 billion spent by the English top flight teams in the summer of 2023.
Okafor previously played for Basel and RB Salzburg before moving to Milan on a 5-year deal in 2023 scoring seven goals in 54 appearances and spent the latter part of last season on loan at Napoli.
Six clubs have shattered their transfer records this window, fuelling the unprecedented expenditure.
Liverpool led the spree with a £100 million move for Florian Wirtz, while Brentford, Bournemouth, Burnley, Sunderland, and Nottingham Forest all splashed record fees on key signings.
With 10 days remaining in the window, further spending is expected to inflate the record even more.
