“It’s part of Khaleda Zia’s conspiracy,” Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub-Ul Alam Hanif said Wednesday.
Armed assailants shot former foreign secretary Rahman and burnt his car on Tuesday night in Dhaka after he had come out of Khaleda’s Gulshan office.
The BNP chief blamed the government for the attack.
Refuting the allegations, Hanif claimed the BNP could not achieve anything by attacking Awami League supporters’ homes, torching vehicles, killing people and destroying public and private establishments.
“They are now turning on their own men,” he observed. “The attack on Reaz Rahman is part of their ploy.”
The Awami League has been blaming the BNP-led alliance for the arson attacks, vandalism and bomb blasts that have taken place during the nonstop nationwide transport blockade called by the BNP chief on Jan 5.
Hanif said, "Khaleda Zia isolated herself from the people by boycotting the January 5 election. She has become more agitated after seeing the government's development initiatives."
"People will forget the BNP's name if this development trend continues for the next five years."
And that's why the BNP chief had started the 'politics of murder', the ruling party leader claimed. "Khaleda Zia is desperately trying to destabilise the country."
"I would like to urge her to stop. Otherwise, the nation won't forgive her ever."
Hanif also asked the BNP leaders and activists to watch out for their party chief and said Khaleda could attack anyone at any moment.
He said the former prime minister has started to execute her conspiracy after the plan to isolate the country through the blockade failed.
