Head of the delegation Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu told bdnews24.com that the eight-strong team would leave Dhaka on Monday morning.
He said this would be the first trip to India by the party’s parliamentary delegation, and believed that this would “take the relations to a new high”.
“India is our close neighbour, close friend and partner. We’ll meet senior leaders, think-tanks, policymakers and discuss how to take the relations further forward,” he said.
Fakrul Imam, Advocate Ziaul Huq Mridha, Mohammad Noman, Nurul Islam Milon, Pir Fazlur Rahman, Amir Hussain Bhuiya and Advocate Altaf Ali are the other members of the delegation.
Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Harsh Vardhan Shringla hosted a reception at his residence on Sunday evening on the eve of their departure.
He said the visit would “add another chapter in our growing engagements between both the countries”.
“India and Bangladesh are not just neighbours and share geography, we are two nations bound by the threads of history, religion, culture and language,” he said.
“Today we are successful fellow travellers on the road to development. Our growing cooperation is a joint vision of our respective leadership in the shared prosperity of neighbours.”
Shringla said contacts between parliamentarians of both the countries were “an important aspect of people-to-people relationship.”
“Relations between our two governments and our people have never been better. India and Bangladesh have always shared close and cordial relations based on a shared values and commitment to strong multi-party democracy.
“We have sustained a tradition of regular contacts and exchanges at political, official and people-to-people levels. This has contributed to enhanced mutual understanding between our governments and peoples,” he said.
He said with the support of all, “the trust and fruitful cooperation between our governments and peoples will further strengthen to our mutual benefit in the years to come”.
Leader of the Opposition Raushon Ershad also attended the reception.
During the visit, the delegation would meet, among others, the speaker of the parliament, and minister for external affairs.
They will also meet with Vice President of the Congress Party Rahul Gandhi and Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs Shashi Tharoor, also a Congress MP.
The MPs will also interact with the Observer Research Foundation, Vivekananda Foundation, Research and Information System for Developing Countries, and attend a roundtable on India and Bangladesh cooperation.
They will meet the secretary general of the apex business body, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
They will also visit Agra before returning to Dhaka on Aug 7.
