Mashiur Rahman Ranga, former Jatiya Party secretary general and ex-minister, has disclosed that his income from “unspecified” or “other sources” vastly outweighs his professional earnings from business.
According to the affidavit submitted alongside his nomination for the Lalmonirhat-1 (Patgram-Hatibandha) constituency, his secondary income is more than five times higher than his commercial profits.
While Ranga served as a three-time MP for Rangpur-1, this marks his maiden bid for the Lalmonirhat-1 seat under the “plough” symbol.
The filing reveals his annual business income stands at Tk 2.45 million, while “other sources” generate a staggering Tk 13.53 million annually.
Additional income streams include Tk 71,750 from agriculture, Tk 3.66 million from house rents, and Tk 41, 553 from shares and deposits.
His family’s financial disclosures also reflect significant “other” income. His son earns Tk 101, 601 from farming and Tk 1.35 million from business.
His daughter-in-law nets Tk 91,400 from agriculture and Tk 449,666 from business, while his daughter’s earnings are recorded at Tk 279,300 from farming and Tk 96,300 from business.
Collectively, Ranga’s dependents draw Tk 1.03 million from unspecified “other sources”.
Ranga’s political career includes stints as a former state minister for the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives.
First winning a seat in 2001, he secured victories in 2014 and 2018, later serving as the opposition chief whip.
He held the post of Jatiya Party secretary general from December 2018 until July 2020.
In September 2022, Party Chairman GM Quader, however, stripped him of all party positions, including his Presidium membership.
The veteran politician currently faces a total of 12 criminal cases filed during 2024 and 2025, according to the affidavit.
