Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader has congratulated Suvendu Adhikari on assuming office as the ninth chief minister of India’s West Bengal state.
The greeting was formally dispatched through the Indian High Commission in Dhaka on Monday evening, a statement from the Jatiya Party chairman’s press office said on Tuesday.
In the message, Quader described Adhikari’s electoral victory and assumption of office as a “significant milestone”.
The veteran politician said the achievement is important not only for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but also for West Bengal’s democratic journey.
According to him, Adhikari has earned public trust through “a long political struggle, resilience and perseverance”.
He also referred to Adhikari’s political lineage, saying few leaders carry such a tradition of public service.
Quader noted that Adhikari’s father Sisir Kumar Adhikari served as a central minister and longtime member of parliament, dedicating his life to the people of Purba Medinipur.
He said the family’s tradition of public service -- stretching from the Kanthi Municipality to the parliament -- played a major role in shaping his leadership.
The leader also mentioned Adhikari’s political journey from the Nandigram movement to his repeated responsibilities in the state assembly and as an MP.
Quader said Adhikari had shown resilience throughout his career while building deep grassroots connections with ordinary people.
Referring to Bangladesh–West Bengal relations, he noted the long land border alongside centuries-old cultural, linguistic and humanitarian ties between the two regions.
He expressed hope that Adhikari’s leadership would create new opportunities for trade, culture and broader cooperation.
Quader said the Jatiya Party supports the welfare of people on both sides of the border, adding that Adhikari’s people-focused leadership could further strengthen goodwill between the two Bengals.
In closing, he wished Adhikari success in his new role, voicing optimism for deeper cooperation and harmony between the people of Bangladesh and West Bengal.
