Tasnim Jara has resigned from the National Citizen Party (NCP), saying she will vie to represent Dhaka-9 constituency in parliament as an independent candidate.
Jara announced the move in a Facebook post on Saturday amid discussions about her withdrawal from NCP.
She wrote that she has decided not to run as a candidate for any party or alliance.
NCP had announced candidates for 125 seats on Dec 10 ahead of the parliamentary elections, with Jara named as the party’s candidate for the Dhaka-9 parliamentary seat.
Jara’s resignation was confirmed to bdnews24.com by the NCP’s Senior Joint Convenor Samantha Sharmin on Saturday evening.
She said, “Tasnim Jara has resigned... I do not have her statement on the matter.”
Jara took to politics last year and was first senior joint member secretary of the NCP. A physician, enrepreneur and content creator, she chairs Shohay -- a platform that provides healthcare information in Bangla.
The Dhaka-9 constituency consists of Sabujbagh, Khilgaon, Mugda, and Manda Thana.

Addressing the voters of this constituency, Jara wrote in a Facebook post: “Dear Khilgaon, Sabujbagh, and Mugda residents, I am your daughter. I was born and raised in Khilgaon.
“My dream was to go to parliament from a political platform and serve the people of my area and the country.
“However, due to the practical context, I have decided not to participate in the elections as a candidate of any party or alliance.
“I promised you and the people of the country that I would fight for you and build a new political culture. No matter the situation, I am determined to keep that promise.
“Therefore, I will participate in this election as an independent candidate from Dhaka-9.”
She wrote that when a candidate represents a party, they benefit from a local office, a structured team, and the ability to raise concerns about security or other issues with the government and administration.
Since she is running independently, she acknowledged that she would not have access to these resources.
“You are my only hope. If you give me affection and support in view of my honesty, devotion, and unwavering will to do new politics as your daughter, then I will get the opportunity to serve you.”
Jara highlighted two “special issues” in the Facebook post.
She said, “One, per the legal obligation to stand as an independent candidate in the election, we need the supporting signatures of 4,693 voters of the Dhaka-9 constituency in a specific form.
“We will start collecting these signatures tomorrow. It is almost impossible to collect the signatures of so many people in just one day. I cannot do it without your spontaneous help.
“Those who want to help in this by providing a place to sit or as a volunteer tomorrow, please join this group. You will be informed of the specific place and location (https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1DCkLvMvRX/).
“Two, many of you donated during the election fundraising a few days ago. I respect those who want to get their donated money back due to my changed decision (to run independently).
“Those who sent money through bKash should fill out the form below to get their money back (https://forms.gle/NKTkkNVZvUvyrsGYA).”
She also said refunds will be issued after verifying transaction IDs and details, and those who paid through the bank will soon be informed of the process for receiving their money back.
