‘Crossfire’ or ‘shootout’ has come to be known as an extrajudicial means of killing by security forces in Bangladesh.

The opposition legislator made the call during an unscheduled discussion in Parliament on Tuesday.

He argued that there was no harm in having such people killed extra-legally to ensure that women and children live safely in Bangladesh.

He reasoned that the law should have no place for 'beasts like these' if society is to maintain a civilised existence.

He also praised the government for its strong stance to curb terror and said the government needs to adopt a similar zero tolerance against woman and child abusers.

Presiding over the session, Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Mia sought to distance the government from his demand and said, "The government does not believe in crossfire".

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal responded, "We do agree that some incidents which the MP has raised in the Point of Order have taken place. But we have taken immediate steps."

He added Parliament will be notified on these under Article 300.
