Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of the former premier and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, has highlighted a comment made by the home advisor about the party and the response to it in a social media post.
On Monday, Home Advisor M Sakhawat Hussain suggested that the Awami League, which lost power in a popular uprising, should reorganise instead of "stirring up trouble".
Referring to the suggestion made by the home advisor, Joy created a post on his official Facebook and X handle on Tuesday.
His post read: “Today the Home Affairs Advisor made a statement that Awami League should reorganise as they are a major political party and gave us Independence.”
However, he also took the opportunity to draw attention to a comment made by one of the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Hasnat Abdullah.
“In response the mob made a statement threatening him with the same consequences as my mother.”
Joy also attached links to the two videos in his post.
While speaking at a meeting with leaders of the Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance at the Secretariat on Monday, the home advisor said: “You [Sheikh Hasina] served as prime minister for 21 years, you left voluntarily—no one asked you to leave. You left of your own accord.”
"This is your country, why shouldn’t you return? Who’s stopping you? No one has lost their citizenship,” said Sakhawat.
“Stay well and come back. We all respect you. But causing chaos will not benefit anyone. It will only further anger people.”
After Sakhawat’s speech at the meeting, several leaders and activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement took to the streets in various parts of the country to demonstrate. They also demanded the resignation of the home advisor.
