Geneva Camp, Mohammadpur

The Geneva Camp in Mohammadpur is the largest settlement for Pakistanis stranded in Bangladesh. Residents of this refugee camp mostly arrived in the then East Pakistan from India’s Bihar after the partition of India in 1947. The vast refugee camp is also widely known as the Bihari Camp.

The headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross, or ICRC, is located in Switzerland’s Geneva. The camp was named Geneva Camp in 1972. It was set up on a temporary basis through an agreement with the Liaquat Housing Society.
