Another 735 people have been hospitalised with dengue in the past day, taking the tally of hospital admissions from the disease since the start of 2025 to 51,404.

This year's fatality count from the mosquito-borne disease climbed to 217 on the back of two more deaths in the past 24 hours.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in its daily bulletin on Tuesday that the deaths occurred at the DNCC Dedicated COVID-19 Hospital and Mugda Medical College Hospital in Dhaka.

Both the dead were women, one aged 60 and the other 27.

September saw the highest number of hospitalisations and deaths this year, with 15,866 people admitted and 76 deaths recorded. In the first seven days of October alone, 4,362 were hospitalised, and 19 died.

In July, 10,684 people were admitted, and 41 people died. Previous months had seen fewer cases, with 1,161 admissions in January, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April, 1,773 in May, 5,951 in June, and 10,496 in August.

January saw 10 deaths, February three, April seven, May three, June 19, and August 39. No deaths were recorded in March by the DGHS.

The two Dhaka city corporations saw the highest number of hospitalisations over the past 24 hours, recording 255.

The rest of the Dhaka Division saw 142 hospitalisations, the Mymensingh Division 35, the Chattogram Division 70, the Khulna Division, 41, the Rajshahi Division 32, the Rangpur Division 10, and the Barishal Division 131.

As of now, 2,520 dengue patients are hospitalised nationwide, including 859 in Dhaka hospitals and 1,66 in hospitals outside the capital.

The DGHS has been keeping a tally of dengue deaths and hospitalisations since 2000. The worst outbreak of the disease was in 2023, when 321,179 patients were hospitalised and 1,705 died.
