Bangladesh reports 219 hospitalisations with dengue in a day, no fatalities

Hospitalisations in September have climbed to 13,216, the highest monthly figure this year

After several consecutive days of fatalities, no dengue-related deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, while another 219 people have been hospitalised.

This keeps the tally of deaths to 188 this year, while the total number of hospitalisations stands at 44,692.

According to the health directorate’s bulletin on Friday, Chattogram division recorded the highest number of new cases with 74 admissions.

Barishal reported 43 patients, Dhaka North City Corporation 40, Dhaka South City Corporation 39, and Mymensingh 23.

With Friday’s admissions, hospitalisations in September climbed to 13,216 -- the highest monthly figure in 2025.

The previous peak was in July, which saw 10,684 hospitalisations.

Monthly admissions earlier in the year were: 1,161 in January, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April, 1,773 in May, 5,951 in June, and 10,496 in August.

September has also recorded the highest number of dengue deaths this year, with 66 fatalities. The next highest was in July, with 41 deaths.

Other monthly death counts are: 10 in January, three in February, none in March, seven in April, three in May, 19 in June, and 39 in August.

Meanwhile, 255 patients were discharged from hospitals across the country in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries this year to 42,478.

The health directorate has tracked dengue cases since 2000. The worst outbreak came in 2023, when 321,179 patients were hospitalised and 1,705 died.
