Bangladesh has recorded three more dengue-related deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the tally of deaths to 220.

Another 700 patients were admitted to hospitals over the past 24 hours, pushing the year’s total hospitalisations to 52,104.

According to the health directorate, two of the three fatalities occurred at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, while the other died at the DNCC Dedicated COVID-19 Hospital.

Among them, one was male and two were female, aged 26, 55, and 2.

September saw the highest number of dengue-related hospital admissions, with 15,866 patients admitted and 76 deaths recorded. The first eight days of October have already seen 4,762 hospitalisations and 22 fatalities.

In July, 10,684 individuals were hospitalised due to dengue, and 41 died. Other months saw lower hospitalisations, with 1,161 in January, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April, 1,173 in May, 5,951 in June, and 10,496 in August.

As many as 2,473 dengue patients are receiving treatment across hospitals in the country, with 856 admitted in hospitals in Dhaka and 1,617 in facilities outside the capital.

Since 2000, the health directorate has been tracking dengue-related hospitalisations and deaths. In 2023, the year recorded the highest number of admissions -- 321,179 -- and the highest death toll, with 1,705 fatalities.
