Bangladesh has recorded one more death from mosquito-borne dengue in the past 24 hours, taking this year’s fatality count due to the disease to 102.
The victim, who died in a hospital under Dhaka South City Corporation, was among 434 new hospital admissions nationwide, lifting total hospitalisations in 2025 to 24,617, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said on Monday.
July remains the deadliest month so far this year, with 41 deaths, followed by 19 already in August. June also saw 19 fatalities, while 10 were reported in January, three in February, seven in April and another three in May. No dengue deaths were recorded in March.
Hospital admissions peaked in July with 10,684 cases, followed by 3,637 until now in August. June logged 5,951 admissions, while January saw 1,161, February 374, March 336, April 701 and May 1,773.
Among the fresh 434 cases, 132 were reported in the two city corporations of Dhaka, 78 in other districts of Dhaka Division, 62 in Barisal, eight in Mymensingh, 67 in Chattogram, 32 in Khulna, 53 in Rajshahi and two in Sylhet.
Currently, 1,252 dengue patients remain hospitalised -- 394 in Dhaka and 858 in other regions.
Bangladesh saw 101,211 hospitalisations from dengue in 2024, with 575 deaths, which is the third-highest annual caseload and the second-highest death toll on record.
