Three more people have died of dengue in the past 24 hours, while 444 new patients have been hospitalised across Bangladesh, raising the death toll from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease to 65 this year.
The number of patients admitted to hospitals has increased to 18,026.
The Directorate General of Health Services has said in its Tuesday bulletin that of the deceased, one was an 11-year-old boy from Syedpur, who died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The other two were a 50-year-old resident of Khilgaon, who died at Mugda Hospital, and a resident of Jatrabari’s Donia, who died at Popular Medical College Hospital.
So far in July, 23 people have died of dengue, marking the highest toll this year. Previously, 19 people died in June.
In addition, 10 people died in January, three in February, seven in April, and three in May.
This year, the number of patients admitted to hospitals due to dengue was highest in July, 7,730. In June, 5,951 patients were admitted to the hospital.
In addition, 1,161 patients were admitted to the hospital in January, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April and 1,773 in May.
The highest number of new patients admitted in the past 24 hours was in the Barishal division, 127.
Alongside, 121 patients were admitted in the two city corporations of Dhaka, 68 in the Dhaka division, eight in Mymensingh, 51 in Chattogram, 33 in Khulna, 29 in Rajshahi, two in Sylhet, and five in Rangpur.
Currently, 1,332 patients are undergoing treatment in different hospitals across the country with dengue. Of them, 380 are in hospitals in Dhaka, and 952 are admitted in hospitals outside Dhaka.
In 2024, a total of 101,214 patients were hospitalised due to dengue nationwide, with 575 fatalities reported.
This marks the third-highest number of hospitalisations due to dengue in the country’s history, while the death toll ranks as the second-highest.
