A documentary on the life of mystic bard Ukil Munshi has been screened at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka, marking the folk poet's 141st birth anniversary.
“Ektarar Imam”was screened on Thursday, jointly organised by production houses Cinehaat and Motion Bangla, according to a media statement.
Following the screening, Mohammad Azam, director general of Bangla Academy, discussed the film.
The film, he said, seamlessly navigated through an analytical journey while simultaneously portraying the lives of those who embody music in their everyday existence.
The contemporary relevance of the bard, he added, was beautifully captured within the title itself.

Filmmaker Anarjo Murshid said the call to renounce egotism and self-centredness in Munshi's songs primarily inspired him to make the film.
While making the documentary, he said, he realised that Munshi was not an isolated character in society but “a true successor of thousands of years of Bengali culture”.
“Ukil Munshi was a unique figure who concurrently served as a mosque imam while composing mystic songs and Krishna Bhajans, the statement read.
He is the creator of timeless masterpieces including “Ashadh Maishya Bhasa Pani”, “Oporadhi Hoileo Ami Bondhu Tor” and “Amar Gaye Joto Dukkho Soy”.
In the documentary, Syed Golam Mostafa of the Richi Darbar Sharif in Habiganj said “Munshi was not just a mosque Imam but also a Pir, or spiritual guide”.
The cinematography was handled by Piklu Neel, Provat Ahmed and John William, while Rabiul Islam Shashi took care of the sound design.
Laila Ferdouse served as editor and colorist.
A major highlight of this movie is its poster. Since no real photo of the Munshi existed, artist AZ Shimul drew his picture for the poster by listening to descriptions from his relatives, the statement said.
