Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep sorrow at the passing of the illustrious folk singer Farida Parveen, highlighting her significant contribution to Bangladesh’s cultural landscape.
In a statement on Saturday, Yunus praised her as “Lalon’s daughter”, whose voice touched the hearts of millions of listeners for five decades.
He said, “Farida’s songs not only showcased Lalon Sain’s profound music but also brought to life the philosophical essence of our culture and way of life.”
Yunus emphasised her unwavering dedication to music despite numerous challenges, inspiring generations with her love for song.
“Her contribution to Bangladesh’s music scene will remain eternal, constantly feeding new thoughts and creativity within our cultural sphere,” he added.
He concluded by offering prayers for her soul and extending heartfelt condolences to her grieving family.
Culture Advisor Mostofa Sarwar Farooki also expressed deep sadness over her death, calling it an irreparable loss to the country's music industry.
In his tribute, Farooki said: “Farida’s voice did more than evoke melodies; it profoundly shaped our cultural philosophy and life ethos.”
He added, “Her work, particularly in Lalon music, was a crucial part of preserving and promoting Bengali songs. Farida’s artistic journey has inspired generations and will forever be remembered with deep respect.”
Farida, 71, passed away at 10:15pm on Saturday at Universal Medical College Hospital in Dhaka after battling kidney complications and diabetes.
She had been undergoing dialysis twice a week and had been hospitalised multiple times this year due to deteriorating health.
