Dhaka’s Viqarunnisa Noon School and College has started on a new schedule that features a mix of online and in-person classes.
Students of the college branch of the institution started online classes on Sunday, said Majeda Begum, the institution's acting principal.
She told bdnews24.com, "We started online classes from Sunday. The school branch is closed for three days for Baisabi, Chaudda Sankranti and the Bengali New Year.
"When this break ends, online classes will also start for students in the school branch."
A notice from the institution on Saturday said classes will be held in person on Saturday, Monday and Wednesday and online on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday as per the schedule set for the college branch.
The notice also mentioned that the routine for online classes and the link to join the classes will be communicated to the students in their respective class groups through the concerned class teacher.
The Ministry of Education has decided to hold three days of online classes and three days of in-person classes at some educational institutions to save power amid a global fuel crisis.
Online classes have started in those educational institutions from Sunday. Online classes will be held on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.
Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon announced this decision at a press conference at the International Mother Language Institute in Segunbagicha in the capital last Thursday.
He said, "There will be in-person classes on Saturday, Monday and Wednesday. And on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday -- these three days -- will be online. No (in-person) school will be held."
When asked about which schools will implement the decision, the minister said: "This isn’t COVID. We aren’t forcing it. This is a blending education. Those who have the ability to take their classes online, particularly those well-renowned and very crowded schools where students come to school in cars (can do it).
"We are not going to follow any hard and fast rule. Tamirul Millat (Qawmi Madrasah) wants to join, but we did not instruct them to do so."
The minister also emphasised that teachers will have to be present at educational institutions when they conduct online classes.
